Settle down, I don’t think so. Wandering and fighting are in my Gypsy blood.

This monstrosity is going to be the death of me.

By the end of the day, I’ve flipped out and punched Riley when I shouldn’t have; the front door will be locked a lot more often; and I’ll never ignore my gut again.

I’m out for blood and I won’t stop until I get it.

GETTING READY

Yoska Draper

I’m enjoying the breeze floating in through my window when the rumble of bikes fills the morning air. I set my cinnamon coffee down and nearly slosh out a few rosemary leaves that are floating in my cup.

More rumbles growl through the air.

As I pass through the living area of my tiny-ass apartment, I see the picture of me and my father. I hesitate and look at the news clipping my uncle put on the wall. It’s one of us in this town with the fighters’ ring in the background. Those were some wild days. Good days.

“I miss you, dad.”

We look happy here. Was I destined to come back? Surely not. Gypsies always move on.

Another rumble has me moving through the ugly-ass room. If I were staying I’d get rid of the faded red, green, and brown kaleidoscope colored carpet. That’s for damn sure.

I see Rockie in statue stance. This time she has one front paw out and both ears down. She’s guarding the couch or Javier’s box of grass. I’m not sure which one.

I go into the lobby and pet her head. She doesn’t even blink. But then I guess she can’t since she’s in gargoyle-statue mode.

I step out the front door and watch Shea drive her tricked out troll themed bike to the back parking lot. The early morning sunrays catch in the troll cutouts on her rims. That is one sweet ride.

Slate parks in front and gets off his monster of a bike with a graceful ease that can’t be taught. Several of his club brothers are with him. Looks like Shea is going to get paid well for a high-profile tattoo job. She’s damn sure good enough to draw in the black sheep of the elite crowd.

Slate directs his brothers to look the place over and then comes over to me. “Yoska.”

“Slate.”
